Dr. Katzen joins the Board with an extensive background in the medical disciplines of oncology and hematology, as well as in the field of business. Currently, he serves as the president of Oncology-Hematology Associates in Maryland, a practice that has grown during his tenure from three to seven medical oncologists. Under his leadership, the practice has been a pioneer in oncology, as one of the first to form an outpatient infusion center for the treatment of cancer patients, as well as to become fully paperless and move to electronic medical records. The group has also actively participated in a number of clinical research trials and has published multiple abstracts and publications.
Prior to going into private practice, Dr. Katzen formed the Oncology Units at Greater Southeast Community Hospital and later at Southern Maryland Hospital Center. He chaired the Cancer Committee and served as chief of Oncology at both hospitals for many years.
Dr. Katzen graduated from Georgetown University with a BS in Biology and earned his medical degree from The George Washington University School of Medicine. He continued his medical training internship and residency in Internal Medicine at GW, as well as completed a fellowship in Hematology/Oncology.
